ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved to reduce power tariff of K-Electric by Rs.10.80 per unit, and for the rest of the country by Rs 2.31 per unit.
Chairman NEPRA Tauseef Hasan Farooqui presided over the meeting to hear petition of Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which sought to reduce the electricity tariff by Rs.2.31 per unit on account of monthly fuel adjustment for power consumers across the country (except for Karachi).
In its request, the CCPA took the plea that more than 8 billion 96 million units of electricity were generated in the month of December. It said the ‘reference cost for power generation in December was set at Rs 9.31 per unit but the actual cost stood at Rs 7.11 per unit, which merits the reduction of power tariff by Rs.2.20 per unit on account of monthly fuel adjustment.
After hearing the grounds, NEPRA approved reduction of electricity tariff by Rs 2.31 per unit for the month of December due to which consumers will get a total relief of Rs 18.70 billion in their January bills. The electricity tariff is not applicable on Lifeline and K Electric customers.
For K-Electric, the power regulatory authority decided to reduce power tariff by Rs.10.80 per unit. Consumers are set to receive a relief of around Rs.12.71 billion.
