Preparations started for elections in Punjab & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif has said that all the legal and constitutional obligations will be fulfilled as regards to the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding “we have started preparations for these elections and a parliamentary board is also being constituted.”

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Monday, he felicitated the caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi for his appointment and assuming new responsibilities, and expressed hope that under him, free, fair and transparent elections would be held in the province. He refuted any role of the newly-installed caretaker Chief Minister Naqvi in the Haris Steel Mills case, and said that the decision of his appointment by the Election Commission was in accordance with the law and constitution and the due process was followed.

“The PTI has no constitutional justification to raise an objection to the appointment of Mr Naqvi as Punjab caretaker CM,” the minister said adding if Imran Khan wanted to go to the court, then it would be a court fight and they would contest it.

The Defence Minister claimed that the PML-N’s narrative of ‘respect vote’ was intact as it was in accordance with the constitution.

Commenting on the PTI’s decision to withdraw their resignations from the National Assembly, Khawaja Asif said Imran Khan was gradually slipping out of politics, and was his party was heading towards a complete failure.
