LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday announced the restoration of the departmental cricket structure, which had dysfunctional as a result of the implementation of the 2019 constitution.
The departmental cricket was banished in 2019 under the then patron-in-chief of PCB Imran Khan, leaving thousands of players and officials jobless.
Speaking to the media, PCB chairman Najam Sethi said that the contracts of 192 domestic players have been restored while the association’s heads have also been informed and invited to the High Performance Center (HPC).
It is pertinent to mention here that departmental cricket, which has played a pivotal role in the promotion of sports in the country for the last 45 years, ended with former prime minister Imran Khan’s approval in 2019.
According to the new domestic structure, only six teams are eligible to play First Class Cricket in the country, two from Punjab and one each from Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, and the federal territory.
