ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday acquitted the accused Rana Tanvir convicted in the attack on former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
The federal and Punjab governments’ appeal against the accused’s acquittal was denied by a three-member court presided over by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood.
Hashmat Habib, Rana Tanvir’s attorney, informed the court that the defendant has not been released despite serving his entire life sentence.
The offender has been imprisoned for 20 years, compared to the life sentence’s 14-year maximum, the attorney continued.
The court decided to exonerate Rana Tanvir of the charge of attacking former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf after hearing arguments from both parties.
It is important to note that the accused Rana Tanvir was given a life sentence by the Supreme Court in 2005.
General (ret.) Pervez Musharraf’s motorcade was targeted by a massive bomb in December 2003 as it crossed a bridge in Rawalpindi.
However, the explosion missed the motorcade by a couple of seconds, and nobody was hurt.
