ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Sunday extended remand of PTI Senator Azam Swati in the custody of Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) by another day in a case pertaining to a tweet against army chief.
During the proceedings today, the prosecutor read out his controversial tweet, congratulating the Army Chief for recent developments at the judicial front, and demanded his 14 days physical remand.

The Defense Counsel Babar Awan firmly opposed they physical remand and alleged that 75 years old Swati was not only stripped, but subjected to inhuman torture due to which one of his finger was broken. He argued that the prosecutor’s argument, that ‘defamation of Army’ did take place by Swati’s tweet, was baseless.
Babar Awan said his client Azai Swati was presented before the court for the third time, therefore, he should not be give in police custody.
After hearing the arguments, the court reserved the judgement for about ten minutes, and later extended Azam Swati’s remand in FIA custody for one more day, and ordered to produce him again tomorrow (Monday).
Earlier, talking to newsmen upon his arrival at the court’s premises, Azam Swati said he would sue the FIA and would knock the doors of the High Court against torture perpetrated on him.
