ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Friday said that the original copy of the US cypher is “safe and secure”.
Following reports that a diplomatic cypher had been taken from the PM House’s files, the federal cabinet established a committee last month to look into the matter. PTI Chairman Imran Khan also claimed to be unaware of the whereabouts of the code.
Asim Iftikhar, the Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, stated during a weekly press conference that it is “quite clear” that these materials are handled and present in the agency in an appropriate, secure environment.
Prior to his removal, PTI Chairman Khan had claimed a “threat letter,” which was actually a cypher, on March 27 at a public event, alleging that the US had threatened his administration and that the opposition at the time was complicit in the plot.
Moreover, the spokeswoman denied claims that Islamabad’s relations with major powers and allies were worsening in answer to a query regarding Pakistan’s connections with other nations in light of the current political scenario.
“I think you would have observed how foreign policy is being conducted, the way the engagements are taking place,” he added. “With the main countries, with the region, with our traditional partners, and also beyond, places with whom we want to expand our cooperation and collaboration.”
