QUETTA: At least four more people lost their lives on Friday as the death toll from Balochistan torrential rains and floods soared to 170. Sixteen bridges and 650km of roads have also been damaged by the flash flooding.
According to a report shared by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 43 women and 55 children lost their lives in the calamitous rains that lashed the largest province of Pakistan in July and August.
As many as 75 people were also injured due to rain-related incidents.
So far, 16 bridges and 650km of roads have been damaged by the heavy downpour and consequent floods in the region as per the data outlined in the report.
Moreover, 15,337 houses were damaged in total, of which 3,872 were completely destroyed.
On the other hand, locals, the Pakistan army, and the civil administration have jointly started conducting the restoration work of the Coastal Highway and Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD) Highway.
As a result of mutual cooperation between the Pakistan Army and the Department of Communications and Construction of the Government of Balochistan, Coastal and RCD highways were opened for traffic from Karachi to Quetta and Gwadar on Thursday.
KSRC handed over 2nd emergency relief consignment for flood victims to NDMA
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRC) has handed over another consignment of 20 emergency relief trucks carrying 190 tons loaded with essential food items to NDMA for flood-affected people of Baluchistan and other affected regions.
According to a press release issued by the embassy of Saudi Arabia here on Friday, around 2,000 Food packages handed over by KSRC, will help flood-affected people living in Baluchistan and north of Pakistan.
Each food package includes all essential items such as; 80 kg of flour, cooking oil of 5 liters, 5kg of Sugar, and 5kg of Daal Chana which will be sufficient for a family. The food bags will be distributed in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and local government.
More than 14000 people will get benefit from this emergency relief, it added. It was pertinent to mention here that the King Salman Relief Centre has already distributed 3000 food packages among flood-affected people living in 6 districts of Baluchistan (Lesbela, Khuzdar, Quetta, Pishin, Killa Saifullah, Killa Abdullah) last week.
