ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue was instructed by the Public Accounts Committee to restart the investigation into the MG car import scandal.
As per the local media, the automaker allegedly under-invoiced the import value of its Completely Built-Up Units (CBUs) and was engaged in tax fraud. The issue was first investigated in 2021 when the automotive marque was only a new entrant into the Pakistani automobile market.
As per the reports at the time, the new entrant was under-invoicing one of its top sellers, the MG HS. At the time, it was being reported that the Federal Board of Revenue had managed to procure “documents” and that the company had significantly understated the customs value of the vehicle, which was priced at $11,632 in Pakistan.
Javed Afridi’s MG HS was Rs 57 lakh six months ago by under-invoicing due to fraud, six months ago, Today, the value of this vehicle is Rs90 lakhs. Before the installation of plant, the company was allowed to import 1,000 units of the vehicle but it imported 10,000 units. The proper investigation of Haier company will reveal even bigger scams in the company.
The scam was unearthed when MG car came in the market, KIA / Hyundai, complained that how can this company import and pay less price than us. The probe will reveal the commission of Imran Khan in the scam as Afridi was his hidden ATM.
