ISLAMABAD: Cell phone users now will be charged an additional 15 pc withholding tax on each recharge as the federal government has increased the tax on mobile recharge.
According to the sources issued by the Ministry of Finance, an additional withholding tax of Rs9.3 is imposed on recharge of every card costing Rs100. The Telecom companies have announced to levy additional tax on balance recharge and now on a recharge of balance Rs100 the consumers will get a balance of Rs86.9.
In this regard, text messages are being sent to consumers by various telecom companies informing them about the tax hike.

The new tax was proposed in the mini-budet passed by the National Assembly, earlier this month.
The National Assembly Finance (Supplementary) Bill, generally known as the “mini-budget”, giving effect to new tax measures in an ambitious bid to achieve a tax target of Rs5.8 trillion as per the requirement of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The approval of the supplementary finance bill was necessary to ensure Pakistan’s sixth review of the $6 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFE) gets cleared by the IMF’s Executive Board which is scheduled to meet later this month to decide the disbursement of the $1-billion tranche.
