LONDON: Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai has announced in an Instagram post on Tuesday night that she had tied the knot with Asser Malik.

Malala’s husband is Asser Malik, the general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) High Performance. Asser, a LUMS graduate, was appointed in May 2020, according to a report published in Dawn Newspaper.

Dawn while quoting a PCB spokesperson reported that Asser was working with Multan Sultans, a franchise of the Pakistan Super League, as operational manager. Asser has also been running player management agency. The spokesman, however, said he had de-linked himself from all previous business to act solely with the High Performance Centre.

For her big day, the 24-year-old wore a tea pink outfit paired with simple jewellery. Her husband is Asser Malik wore a simple suit and matched his tie to her outfit.

The girls’ education activist previously revealed her misgivings around marriage in the July 2021 issue of British Vogue. “I still don’t understand why people have to get married,” she told Sirin Kale.

“If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership? My mum is like. Don’t you dare say anything like that! You have to get married, marriage is beautiful,” she had said.
