It may be recalled that on October 6, President Arif Ali had issued the NAB’s Second Amendment Ordinance 2021, which gave him the power to set up several accountability courts and appoint judges.

According to the Presidential Amendment Ordinance, the President, after consulting the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, will appoint a new Chairman NAB and in case of disagreement, the matter will be referred to a 12-member parliamentary committee in which the members of the government and the opposition will have equal representation.

According to the amended ordinance, the new chairman will be appointed for a term of four years and the outgoing chairman will continue his services until a new chairman is appointed.
