Pakistan’s former pacer Waqar Younis has apologized for his anti-Hindu remarks that recently sparked controversy among social media users across the border.
It all started when Waqar Younis during India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup in which our country defeated the neighbouring by 10 wickets made remarks that involved hurting religious sentiments.
During the live transmission, Waqar while discussing how wonderfully Babar and Rizwan had batted, said, “The best thing, what Rizwan did, Mashallah, he offered the Namaz on the ground surrounded by Hindus, that was really something very special for me.”
His remarks did not go unnoticed and it sparked controversy in India and many Indian cricket lovers was disappointed by former Pakistani players’ remarks. The hashtag of his name has also been trending on Pakistani social media.
Rizwan always offers prayers during matches, he even plays fasting during Ramadan. His intention was not to show off or put anyone down. But agreed, irresponsible statement by Waqar

However, Waqar Younis decided to offer an apology after his comment and said that sports unite people regardless of race, colour, or religion. According to the former cricketer, his remarks were not intended at all.

He said, “In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean which has hurt the sentiments of many. I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, a genuine mistake.”
