ISLAMABAD: The hearing of the constitutional petition on the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner will be held in the Supreme Court today under the chairmanship of the Acting Chief Justice.
According to details, Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed is on an official visit to Indonesia while acting Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the cases.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Acting Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the petition seeking a declaration of appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner as unconstitutional.
The petitioners will appear in person in the Supreme Court and give arguments on the petition seeking a declaration of appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner as unconstitutional. A three-member bench of judges will decide the case.
It may be recalled that earlier the Federal Minister of Information had said that if the Chief Election Commissioner has to do politics, he should resign, the Election Commissioner should reconsider his attitude and not become a tool of small parties.
Fawad Chaudhry said five days ago that we do not have confidence in the Chief Election Commissioner in terms of having the largest party in the country and the largest numerical majority in Parliament.
“We want to use technology in the electoral process. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi & Co. are working together to make the legal amendment on the use of electronic voting machines controversial. Parliament has the power to make laws, he said.
