MADINAH: An 80-year-old man who served at Masjid-e-Nabavi, the Mosque of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), for more than forty years has received praise on social media.
Citizens of Saudi Arabia have also launched a funded campaign for the worker, identified as Moqtada. After his photos went viral, citizens also appealed to his employer not to terminate but honour him for his services.
“It was a tough moment when my employer told me that I am being retired because of my old age,” Moqtada told local media.
The majority of the citizens have also pushed the Saudi Government to give the worker a permanent iqama (residence permit) and citizenship.
They said that as long as the worker stays in Saudi Arabia, he should receive a regular salary for his four-decades of service for the Masjid-Nabawi.
Saudi woman writer Monaira Al-Qadeeb also extended her support for the campaign, adding that people like these workers should be honoured.
