LAHORE: An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 struck Lahore and other Central Punjab areas on Monday evening.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the tremors were felt in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree and other districts of the province.
The first tremor was reported at 6:59 pm with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale and a depth of 60 km. The second tremor was felt at 7:00 a.m. with a magnitude of 5.1 and a depth of 65 km.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in Lahore, Rawalpindi and other Punjab cities came out of their houses by reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.
PMD said the quake hit at a depth of 65 km while the epicenter was located in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK). No loss of life or property reported in tremors.
On November 6, a moderate earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter Scale hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining.
An earthquake had jolted Swat and adjoining areas. No loss of life or property was reported. According to the seismological center, the depth of the earthquake was 40 km. The epicenter was on the Pak-Afghan border.
Due to the earthquake, people came out of their homes reciting prayers. It may be recalled that tremors were felt in different parts of Balochistan including Khuzdar last month.
According to the seismological center, the magnitude of the quake was 4 and the depth was 20 km while its epicenter was 90 km away from Khuzdar. It may be recalled that even two months ago, tremors were felt in Lasbela district and surrounding areas of Balochistan.
