KARACHI: The Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released its crime statistics for the month of July 2026, painting a grim picture of the law and order situation in the metropolis.
The statistics come at a time when CCTV footage of street crimes, robberies and snatching incidents surface on social media on a daily basis, leaving citizens deeply concerned over their safety and security.
According to the report, covering the period from July 1 to July 31, 2026, as many as 40 people were killed in homicide incidents across the city. The committee also reported 18 cases of extortion during the same period.
Street crime remains rampant in the city.
The report states that 1,846 mobile phones were snatched from citizens in July alone.
On vehicle crime, the data shows 12 four-wheelers were snatched at gunpoint while 110 cars were stolen.
Motorcycles remain the most targeted, with 2,648 motorcycles stolen and another 492 snatched during the month, taking the total number of two-wheelers snatched and stolen to 3,140.
On a positive note, no cases of kidnapping for ransom and bank robbery / dacoity were reported in July.
The CPLC noted that errors and omissions are exempted as of August 8, 2026.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CPLC data only reflects cases that were officially reported.
According to social media experts and ground realities, there are numerous cases in which citizens do not even bother to visit a police station to register an FIR for a crime they have experienced or witnessed, due to lengthy procedures and lack of trust in the system.
Therefore, it is feared that the actual number of crimes committed in Karachi during July is significantly higher than the official figures compiled by the CPLC.
