RAWALPINDI: Three suspected terrorists including one Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander were killed in two intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted by security forces in the North Waziristan and Bajaur tribal districts, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.
“Terrorist Ghafoor alias Jaleel was close acquaintance of Maulvi Faqir Muhammad – a top leader of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – and was involved in many terrorist activities,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
It added that one security official also sustained injuries during the exchange of fire with the terrorist. The operation was conducted two days after Maulvi Faqir escaped unhurt from a suspected drone strike on a safe house in eastern Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, security forces killed at least two terrorists in North Waziristan’s Boya area during a clearance operation. According to ISPR, terrorists were spotted fleeing from Mohammad Khel village towards Vezda Sar and were killed during the exchange of fire.
On September 28, 10 terrorists including four commanders were killed in an IBO carried out by the security forces in South Waziristan district on the reported presence of a militant hideout.
The terrorists remained actively involved in planting IEDs, conducting fire raids and target killing of innocent civilians. These terrorists were planning to conduct more acts of terrorism inside South Waziristan, it added.
