BJP contested the election for 441 seats and claimed victory of 292 seats. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi managed to win the seat from Varanasi, UP. Amit Shah won the Gandhinagar seat. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi won one seat each from Rae Bareli apart from Wayanad.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP got a big defeat and the opposition alliance got a big victory. Major candidates of India Alliance defeated the BJP. Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also won.
In Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi defeated BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh by a record 39,030 votes. Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav defeated BJP’s Subrat Pathak by 17,000 votes. Akhilesh Yadav got a total of 642,292 votes, and Subrat Pathak got 471,370 votes.
BJP candidate Smriti Irani, who had won in 2014 and 2019, lost to Kishori Lal Sharma of Congress by over one and a half lakh votes. Kishori Lal Sharma got 539,228 votes while Smriti Irani got 372,320 votes. Kishori Lal Sharma defeated Smriti Irani by a margin of 167,196 votes.
Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav defeated BJP candidate Javeer Singh from Samajwadi Party’s Garhmainpuri by more than 220,000 votes. Dimple Yadav got a total of 598,526 votes. Jayveer Singh of BJP was defeated by a margin of 221,639 votes to 376,887 votes.
In Sultanpur, BJP’s Maneka Gandhi was defeated by a margin of 43,147 votes with 411,560 votes against Samajwadi Party’s Ram Bhawal Yadav’s 444,330 votes. And candidates of 9 parties including BJP were in the field.
From Lakhimpur Kheri, BJP Union Minister Ajay Mishra lost to Samajwadi Party candidate Utkarsh Verma. Utkarish Verma got 5,57,365 votes and defeated Ajay Mishra with 5,23,36 votes by a total margin of 34,329 votes. A total of 11 candidates were in the fray from the constituency.
Similarly, BJP’s MP from Azamgarh, considered the bastion of the Samajwadi Party, Bhojpuri film star Dinesh Lal Narhwa has won a total of 3,47,204 votes against Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav’s 582,390 votes. He was defeated by a margin of 61,350 votes. A total of 9 candidates were in the fray from the constituency.
From the Rampur seat, Samajwadi Party candidate Muhibullah defeated BJP’s Ghanshyam Lodhi by a margin of 87,434 votes with a margin of 4,81,503 votes against 3,94,69. Similarly, Ghazipur. Afzal Ansari was able to defeat BJP’s Parasnath Rai by 1,24,861 votes.
