Olympic bronze medalist boxer Syed Hussain Shah has revealed that he still has not received the housing plot he was promised 35 years ago after winning his medal.
Shah, who hails from Lyari, earned a bronze medal in boxing at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, becoming the first Pakistani athlete to win an individual medal at the Games.
In an interview with Independent Urdu, Shah expressed his disappointment with the government, stating, “Despite 35 years having passed, I have yet to receive the plot, even though I deposited 15,000 rupees at the time for its registration.”
The boxer, currently residing in Japan, was promised a residential plot in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi by the government of that time. However, when he went to claim the plot, he was informed that it had already been occupied by someone else.
“I still haven’t received that plot,” Shah said with regret. “I had hoped to build my house and a boxing club on the plot promised to me by the government, but my dream remains unfulfilled.”
Shah further revealed that aside from the plot, he did not receive other promised prizes and gifts, except for Rs25,000 from the Pakistan Sports Federation and a personal donation of Rs25,000 from a Pakistani citizen.
