LAHORE: The nation is observing the 17th death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet, journalist, literary critic, dramatist, and short story writer Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi across the country. Â
He was born on 20th November 1916 in the village Anga of Khushab District of Punjab province. He wrote 50 books on poetry, fiction, criticism, journalism and art.
 He published collections of his best-known work including poetry volumes Jalal-o-Jamal, Shola-i-Gul and short story collections Chopaal, Sannata, and Kapaas Ka Phool, Bagolay, Tal-o-Gharoob, Sailab-o-Gardab, Anchal, Ghar Se Ghar Tak.
His work of short story writing is considered by some critics as second only to Munshi Prem Chand in its depiction of rural culture.
He also served as editor for ‘Imroze’ newspaper as well. He wrote both ghazals and nazms in urdu poetry.
He was given Pride of Performance, the Pakistan Academy of Letters’ lifetime achievement award, as well as the country’s highest civil honour, Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi also worked as a scriptwriter for Radio Pakistan. He died at the age of 89 on July 10, 2006, in Lahore.
