KARACHI: Fire fighters struggling for hours have successfully doused the huge blaze that had engulfed almost the entire multi-storey building on Shahra-e-Faisal, late last night.
The 16-storey Portway Trade Center building had caught fire with several fire tenders at work trying to control the blaze and keep it from spreading to surrounding structures.
According to the details, the fire engulfed the entire Portway Trade Center building that was located near Nursery at Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi and adjacent to the PSO Petrol Pump.
There are reports of a security guard being injured after he jumped from the first floor in order to escape the fire and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, rescue services, fire fighters, and rangers were vpresent on the scene and the road leading up to the building has been closed for traffic.
The fire fighters have called in more units and declared the fire to be of ‘Third Degree’ with a large portion of the building burning out of control.
However, there is reportedly no loss of life as the Portway Trade Center comprised offices that were closed at the time it caught fire.
Officials declared emergency at their hydrants located at NIPA, Safoora and Landhi. After struggling for hours, fire fighters managed to douse most of the fire while with efforts to kick start the cooling process.
Governor Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has also taken notice of the incident and called for a report, while ordering a detailed investigation to find the cause of the fire.
