YouTube has announced new AI-powered features to help users find the content and information they need.
According to the company, a new “AI-powered search results carousel” is being introduced, similar to Google’s AI Overviews, and a conversational AI tool is being tested with more users.
The feature is currently only available to YouTube Premium subscribers in the US. It will suggest videos related to the search and show short AI-generated topic summaries so users can quickly find the information they’re looking for.
The carousel will appear in searches related to shopping, tourism, or activities in specific locations. For example, if someone searches for “best beaches in Hawaii,” they’ll be presented with a carousel of the best snorkeling spots, volcanic beaches, and related videos, along with brief descriptions.
However, the feature is likely to hurt video creators, as users will not click on the video if they get all the information from the carousel.

The move comes after reports that Google’s AI Overviews have reduced traffic to news websites, which could also hurt creators’ viewership on YouTube.
YouTube also announced that its conversational AI tool is now available to some non-premium users. The tool can be used to summarize educational videos, provide suggestions, and ask informational questions.
