President Asif Ali Zardari has stated that Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change. Despite limited resources, Pakistan is taking measures to address environmental challenges. Every year, we face devastating floods, droughts, and heatwaves that displace millions of people.
In his message on the occasion of World Environment Day, the President said that World Environment Day reminds us of our responsibility to protect the planet and ensure a sustainable future for the coming generations. Pakistan’s share in global carbon emissions is less than one percent. This imbalance highlights the urgent need for global environmental justice and strong international support.
Asif Ali Zardari stated that despite limited resources, Pakistan is taking steps to tackle environmental challenges. “Our efforts to combat climate change are aligned with Pakistan’s broader economic transformation plan, “Uraan Pakistan.” Everyone has to play their part in tackling climate change.” He added.
The President stated,”Let us pledge to take actions in our daily lives that positively impact the environment. We must reduce the use of plastic, promote afforestation, practice recycling, and adopt environmental protection policies.”
The President stated that he urges every citizen and institution to unite for a cleaner and greener Pakistan. “Let us work together to address climate change, protect biodiversity, and use natural resources responsibly.” He added.
World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, was established by the United Nations in 1972 during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.
It serves as a global platform to raise awareness and prompt action on pressing environmental issues, uniting governments, organizations, and individuals in efforts to protect and restore the planet. The day emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices and environmental stewardship for current and future generations.
