KARACHI: A bomb blast in Karachi’s crowded Bolton Market on Monday evening killed one woman and injured more than 10 people, including a police officer.
Police officials have said while the nature of the blast is still being ascertained, it seems that the police vehicle was the target of the blast. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to a hospital.
The Initial report also revealed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a motorcycle. The blast occurred in the Iqbal market.
Following the blast, the fire brigade reached the site of the incident and doused the flame. Eyewitnesses said that the sound of the blast could be heard in faraway areas.
The deceased was identified as Sanya wife of Khalid, 30. The injured are Ahsan S/0 M mushataq,20, irshad S/0 M. Moheen, 35, younus S/0 M. Faiz, 30, Haris S/0 Khalid, 8, ASI Badarudin (Posting Karadar ), Ashfaq S/0 M. Habib, 30, M. Habib S/0 Ahmad Ali, 60,Sikandar S/0 Gous Muhammad, 25, Faraz S/0 Shoiab, 25, Abdullah S/0 Jan Muhammad and Ayub S/0 M. Habib, 40. All the injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the blast that took place in the Kharadar locality of the metropolis.
He directed the Sindh police chief to submit a detailed report on the incident and also ordered the district administration to reach the spot and carry out rescue work.
An emergency has been declared at the Civil Hospital on the order of the chief minister, the spokesperson said.
Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab said in a tweet that the number of injured increased to 11 while four are critically injured.
This second bomb blast in Karachi in the last five days. On May 12, one person had lost his life and nine persons sustained injuries in a powerful explosion in Karachi’s Saddar Town.
