RAWALPINDI: A woman who had kidnapped a 45-day-old infant has been arrested while the child has been safely reunited with his parents.
The child’s mother has lodged a complaint with Race Course Police helpline, claiming that she was going with her elder son and the infant Hamza to a doctor for a medical check-up. On the way, a woman offered to help and hold her son and suddenly disappeared in the narrow streets with the child.
After receiving the complaint, SHO Race Course Police Station immediately reached the scene of the incident and lodged a case in presence of the child’s father Rehman. An investigation team was formed under the supervision of SHO Race Course to probe the incident.
The woman was identified from CCTV footage after which a raid was conducted at her house in Sachal Colony. When police reached her residence, they were informed that she had left with the elder son on a motorcycle.
Police continued the search and eventually arrested the woman named Asiya Waqas and her son Haroon within a few hours. The woman was taking away the minor child to Faisalabad when she was arrested from a car.
Police handed over the infant to his parents who expressed gratitude for recovering the child safely. CPO Rawalpindi has lauded Superintendent Cantonment, SHO Race Course and the police team for their efforts and announced cash rewards for them.
