Rumors have it that Pakistanis won’t be able to enjoy the final of the much-awaited ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Lahore next year, as it could be shifted to Dubai if India qualifies.
A report in The Telegraph claims that the International Cricket Council (ICC) may come under pressure to find another location for the championship match because of India’s government’s long-standing ban on playing in Pakistan.
All 15 game venues have already been confirmed for the event, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
“There is a strong possibility that the ICC will ultimately find a different venue for India’s matches – including, if they advance that far, the final itself,” the report said.
India has not toured Pakistan since July 2008, as tense political relations between the two countries have hindered bilateral series or tournament participation on Pakistani soil.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied rumors that India’s tournament matches would be moved to the United Arab Emirates.
There are no intentions to move the Champions Trophy final from Pakistan, according to a PCB spokeswoman.
He said that the board is making every effort to make sure that the tournament preparations are proceeding as planned, and we have no doubt that Pakistan will be able to host an unforgettable occasion.
The ICC has not yet released a formal comment regarding any venue adjustments.
