ISLAMABAD: Three distinct areas on the Margalla Hills are currently experiencing a series of fires. National disaster management teams and local authorities are working to prevent the fires from spreading further.
To assist in firefighting efforts, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator, Rumina Khurshid Alam, has requested the deployment of a helicopter from the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). She said that efforts were being made to put out the fire with the support of the NDMA and the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The flames have reached the Saidpur village range in the Margalla Hills, prompting significant resource mobilization.
“CDA teams have reached the spot to douse the fire,” confirmed a CDA spokesperson. Over 75 firefighters from the CDA are actively engaged in the firefighting efforts, with additional teams dispatched to expedite control over the blaze.
However, the firefighting teams are facing challenges due to strong winds, which are hampering efforts to contain the flames. “All resources are being utilized to control the fire,” the CDA spokesperson added, noting the presence of Rescue and CDA teams along with Rangers on the scene to oversee operations. The spread of fire to Saidpur village has heightened concerns about potential damage and increased the urgency for containment measures.
