The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi on Wednesday arrived in Pakistan for a two-day official visit.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the visit is part of the long-standing cooperation between Pakistan and the IAEA. The IAEA Director General’s visit will further strengthen the partnership between Pakistan and the agency in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
During his visit, Rafael Mariano Grossi will meet with key political leaders, participate in seminars, and visit nuclear energy-producing sites. He will also meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The IAEA is a United Nations nuclear watchdog organization that oversees global efforts to promote the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology. Pakistan has been cooperating with the agency since 1957 and maintains an active civil nuclear power program under its safeguards.
Earlier, Pakistan has been elected as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
