It was only a few days ago when an anti-Pakistan movie ‘Mission Majnu’ prior to its release was harshly trolled online over its typical stereotypes about Pakistanis and yet the same film is topping the trending movies list in Pakistan on Netflix.
Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna starrer ‘Mission Majnu’ depicts the story of an undercover operation carried out by India prior to and during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.
In the movie, a RAW field agent named Amandeep Singh travels to Pakistan on an undercover operation to look into Pakistan’s involvement in developing nuclear weapons.
The spry thriller was heavily criticised by Pakistanis over the portrayal of constant ‘adaabs’, ‘men wearing black eyeliner’, and ‘taweez’ with a topic on top of the head all the time.

But this time, the point is not the portrayal as we as a nation are already fed up with the attire of Pakistanis shown in Bollywood movies. The sad reality is the propaganda-based movie which is made totally against Pakistan is trending in Pakistan.
Well some are watching it as fun and most are watching it to make fun of it; however, it’s still adding a benefit to the movie on Netflix’s chart which somehow questions our patriotic rights about our own country.
There was a time when Pakistan had the largest pirated movies industry for Bollywood. Even after the ban on Indian content in Pakistan by the government, most of the time it’s the Indian movies that are trending on Netflix Pakistan rather than Hollywood ones.
Inshort, the government can ban Indian content from Pakisatni cinemas but how will it bar it from minds? Twitter trends? Netflix?
