KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan has not reached any decision regarding whether to vote for Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election or not.
According to the sources, after the dissolution of the coordination committee, the negotiation committee of MQM consisting of conveners Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Syed Mustafa Kamal, and Dr. Farooq Sattar has been given the authority to decide. The party will decide to vote for Asif Ali Zardari.
The negotiation committee of MQM is going to leave for Islamabad today to meet the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). Sources say that MQM’s inclusion in the federal cabinet, and matters related to ministries will be finalized in the meeting.
Sources added that the coordination committee was disbanded due to organizational irregularities and audio leaks. The number of members in the new liaison committee will also be reduced.
Earlier on Monday, the MQMP had asserted that its vote for Asif Ali Zardari, the candidate of the coalition parties in the presidential elections, would be subject to the approval of the coordination committee.
A joint delegation of Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League (N) met MQMP leaders at Parliament Lodges in Islamabad ahead of the March 9 presidential elections. The delegation made a formal request to MQM-P leaders to support joint candidate Asif Ali Zardari in the March 9 elections.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the final decision to vote for the candidate of the coalition parties will be taken by the coordination committee of the party.
