Various parts of Karachi have experienced several low-intensity earthquakes amid heightened seismic activity.
As per reports, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Quaidabad, Landhi, and surrounding areas have felt at least seven earthquake tremors in the past 24 hours.
The latest tremors were felt in the Malir area, with the quake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale on Monday. According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter was located in Malir and its surrounding areas at a depth of 29 kilometers.
A fault line in Karachi’s Landhi area, according to experts, has become active, triggering a series of earthquakes.
Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider Laghari said that the fault line is gradually releasing energy, which is expected to continue for the next one or two days. However, he believes the intensity is likely to diminish over time.
Laghari assured the public that there was no need to worry, explaining that the recent earthquakes were shallow, which is why their tremors were so pronounced. He said that low-magnitude quakes can differ in how strongly they are perceived.
He also addressed the broader seismic risks in the region, drawing attention to Balochistan’s Somiani area, where the Eurasian, Arabian, and Indian tectonic plates converge.
