Dania Shah, the ex-wife of the late Pakistani TV host and former lawmaker Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain, and her new husband, Hakeem Shahzad Ahmed, have sought government protection after receiving death threats.
According to reports, Justice Asim Hafeez of the Multan High Court reviewed a petition filed by Dania Shah and Hakeem Shahzad Ahmed, requesting security.
The petitioners said that Dania had received international calls threatening serious harm if she did not end her second marriage. Despite reporting these threats to the authorities, no protective measures have been implemented.
During the hearing, the petitioners revealed that they had approached the Punjab Home Secretary, offering to pay for their own security. Moreover, Hakeem Shahzad had received threats warning him to divorce Dania or be shot.
The petition further explained that Dania Shah was earlier married to the prominent religious scholar Aamir Liaquat Hussain. After his passing and completing the required Idda (waiting period), she married Hakeem Shahzad Ahmed. The couple now resides in Shujaabad, near Shahpur.
Dania Shah publicly confirmed her marriage last month.
