After a former chief justice of the Gilgit-Baltistan apex court levelled serious allegations against former chief justice Saqib Nisar, there are speculations about who Rana Shamim really is.
He is the same person claimed of witnessing former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar’s direction to a high court judge not to release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on bail at any cost before the 2018 general elections.
Who is Rana Shamim?
Born on 6th July 1942, Rana Shamim is a politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, since August 2018. He is the current chairman of the Standing Committee for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan.
His allegations against ex-CJP Saqib Nisar?
In an affidavit, Rana Shamim said that he had been witness to then CJP Saqib Nisar who directed a high court judge not to release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on bail before the 2018 general elections.
Rana Shamim’s statement was given under oath before the Oath Commissioner on November 10, 2021.
Saqib Nisar’s response
Former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar dismissed the allegations levelled by Rana Shamim and termed the claims as a blatant lie.
The former CJP said the new item published against him is far away from reality and termed it as a lie. The former top judge said, “Rana Shamim asked me for extension of his tenure as CJ GB, which I didn’t approve.” Nisar said Rana Shamim complained once against not giving him an extension.
Rana Shamim responds to Saqib Nisar’s denial
Responding to the refusal of the former CJP Justice retired Saqib Nisar, Rana Shamim has said that he stands by his statement.
“I stand by my statement which I gave to journalist Ansar Abbasi against former CJP Justice retired Saqib Nisar,” ex-CJ GB Rana Shamim said while exclusively talking to ARY News.
Reacting to the demand for an extension by him, Rana Shamim said the then CJP Sadiq Nisar did not have the right to extend my services.
Fawad Chaudhry’s stance on the matter
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has asked the Sharif family to give a money trail of Avenfield apartments’ purchase instead of fabricating stories. In a Twitter post, Fawad Chaudhry said he had read a strange news item.
Instead of fabricating silly stories and conspiracy theories, the Sharifs should provide a money trail for the Avenfield Apartments, which were later given to Maryam Nawaz. he said.
