LONDON: Renowned philanthropist and businessman Asif Rangoonwala has been honored with the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his contributions to the United Kingdom and South Asia.
King Charles III presented the CBE award to Mr. Rangoonwala, who serves as the vice-chair of the British Asian Trust (BAT), a charity associated with the King. This recognition was part of the 2024 Birthday Honours list.
Upon receiving the award, Rangoonwala expressed his profound gratitude and honor. He committed to continuing his efforts toward promoting a more just and compassionate world.
He also expressed appreciation for his colleagues’ support over the years, noting that public service is a legacy passed down from his parents. Rangoonwala highlighted the need to recognize more heroes and role models within his communities.
Who is Asif Rangoonwala?
Asif Rangoonwala was born in Karachi into a successful Memon merchant family and now holds British nationality.
Rangoonwala is a successful entrepreneur with interests in the food, property, and sports sectors. He is also deeply involved in philanthropic activities through the Rangoonwala Foundation, established by his late father.
He founded the UK-based Eurobuns Limited, a highly successful venture in the industrial baking sector, for which he received the Queen’s Award. The company was sold in May 2008 to Lantmännen Unibake.
As Chairman of the Rangoonwala Foundation, he oversees a charity that provides vocational training, medical centers, libraries, and other educational and life-enhancing facilities for marginalized communities worldwide.
Rangoonwala is also a fellow of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Trustee and Governor of the Whitefield Development Trust, Governor and Vice President of Coram, Trustee of The British Pakistan Foundation, Trustee of Habib University Trust, and Chairman of the World Memon Foundation.
