Every time we glance at our phones or check our social media, we are met by another heart-drenching story. Unfortunately, the social media users woke up to another tragic news of a young man named Nazim Jokhio being killed from torture in an MPA’s farmhouse.
Who is Nazim Jokhio?
A man named Nazim Jokhio was allegedly tortured to death. His body was found at a farmhouse belonging to a PPP lawmaker in the Malir area of Karachi. Police have not confirmed the cause of the death.
Nazim Sajawal Jokhio’s tortured body was found at the Jam House, said to be PPP MPA Jam Awais’ farmhouse in Malir’s Jam Goth, at around 2:30 pm yesterday. According to Memon Goth Station House Officer (SHO) Khalid Abbasi, the victim allegedly died after being tortured with sticks and punches during a scuffle at the Jam House.
Nazim’s body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for the completion of legal formalities where it remained for over five hours.
Who killed him?
A case was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Afzal Jokhio.
The victim’s brother Afzal accused PPP MPA Jam Awais and MNA Jam Abdul Karim of being involved in his brother’s alleged murder. He said Nazim had made a video before his death after he was thrashed by the influential landlord.
Victim’s last video statement
The relatives also shared a video statement of the victim to the media on this occasion. In the video, Nazim before his murder said he had been tortured and threatened over a clip he shot of the guests of some influential persons hunting the endangered houbara bustard in his village near Jungshahi town.
Nazim Jokhio said that he made a live video of hunting at 4 pm. Some person had snatched the cell phone from him and beat him to keep him silent, but he was later given his phone. He said he made a phone call to Madadgar-15 but the police did not arrive.
In the meantime, the hunters left the place. He said he visited the police station concerned and submitted an application about the alleged torture on him. Later on, he received threatening phone calls asking him to delete the videos, otherwise you may face problems in the morning.
He did not name anyone in the video statement but said that those threatening him would be responsible. “I am not afraid but this video statement of mine should be kept on record. I am receiving threats and I would not seek an apology,” he said in the video statement.
Outrage against his brutal death
Soon after the news broke open on the internet, many social media users have started demanding justice for Jokhio.
The relatives and Jokhio community members of Malir and people of adjoining areas last night blocked the main National Highway near Gulshan-e-Hadeed. The victim’s brother has urged the Sindh chief minister and other authorities to provide him justice and arrest the ‘influential feudal’ allegedly involved in the murder.
