ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Senior Puisne Judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa has questioned the negotiations between the state and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), asking who had authorized talks with the terrorists.
The senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court was addressing the participants of two-day (September 23 and 24) 9th International Judicial Conference, organized by the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP), under the auspices of the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee (NJPMC) at the Supreme Court building.
“We are negotiating with terrorists. Who is doing it and what is being offered? What will we say [to TTP] … please bomb five schools and not six or please get some money or [we will] give you some weapons. What is on the negotiating table? Where are these negotiations being held and who has authorized them?” Justice Isa asked.
Justice Faez said that some girls’ schools in Swat were damaged by terrorists, resulting in their closure for five years, according to a report by an international organization. He added, “Who had authorized such negotiations with the terrorists,” before continuing, “Now we are holding talks with the same terrorists.”
According to Justice Isa, the main reason for our issues is that we don’t adhere to the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Although the Quran also commands respect for women, he continued, “But we are negotiating with the terrorists.”
We need to take actionable acts in light of climate change. The poor are contributing to the flood fund, he added.
In the West, people ride bicycles, walk, and take public transportation, thus the federal government should invest in footpaths and public transportation rather than providing judges, bureaucrats, and army officers cars.
In response to a participant’s query on why the Supreme Court isn’t working with the new research and legal law department that General Headquarters (GHQ) has established to address constitutional and international challenges.
“I did not know that army has undertaken this task,” the judge replied, “I for one [is] more than ready to render the cooperation and tell them how to operate tanks and artillery.”
