The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is hearing arguments that Israel is committing genocide in its war on Gaza.
South Africa filed the lawsuit in December, in a move welcomed by several countries amid a global chorus for a ceasefire in Gaza.
At least 23,210 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, with more than 59,000 wounded.
Here is a reminder on which countries and organizations are supporting South Africa’s case at the ICJ:
- Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
- Malaysia
- Turkey
- Jordan
- Bolivia
In addition, the Maldives, Namibia, Pakistan, the Arab League, Colombia and Brazil have also put their weight behind South Africa.
The US has voiced its opposition. Israel’s other Western allies, including the EU, have mostly maintained silence. The UK has refused to support the case.
