Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth starrer romantic comedy Lonely Planet is now available on famous OTT platform Netflix.
In the drama, Laura Dern plays Katherine, a writer who goes to a special retreat in Morocco to overcome her writer’s block. There, she meets Owen, played by Liam Hemsworth, and their friendship quickly turns into a deep and life-changing romance.
It is written and directed by Susannah Grant, who has been nominated for an Oscar. It also features Diana Silvers, Ben Youcef, Bellina Logan, Gustav Dyekjær Giese, and Dillon Lane.
Early reviews for Lonely Planet are mixed. The New York Times mentioned that while the film looks nice, it needs more than just attractive visuals to hold the audience’s attention. The Wrap echoed this sentiment, saying the story isn’t very strong, but the leads are charming enough to keep you watching.
Next Best Picture noted that while the film is visually appealing and has some charming moments, the romance feels incomplete and the surprising twists don’t quite work. On a more positive note, The Guardian described the movie as “grounded” and enjoyable, focusing on older women as interesting characters.
Collider highlighted that Katherine and Owen’s journey of self-discovery sets Lonely Planet apart from other romantic dramas.
