WhatsApp has rolled out new chat themes for Android and iOS users, allowing for a more personalized chat experience.
This new “Chat Theme” feature includes 22 pre-set themes and 30 new wallpapers, complete with colorful backgrounds, alternative chat bubbles, and more.
With this feature, you can apply a theme to all your chats or choose a different theme for individual conversations. These themes are private and only visible to you, and they can also be applied to Channels.

Beyond the pre-set themes, WhatsApp allows users to further customize their preferences, such as adjusting the background brightness and changing the color of outgoing messages. Incoming messages will stay either white or grey, depending on whether the user has enabled a light or dark theme.

How to change chat themes
To change the theme for all chats:
- Go to Settings > Chats > Default chat theme.
To customize individual chats:
- Tap the chat name at the top (iOS) or the 3-dot menu (Android) > Chat theme.
