In a recent conversation with media in London, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif made several startling revelations and statements concerning the political landscape and events surrounding May 9, 2023.
According to a report by Geo News, Khwaja Asif stated that after the punishment of the perpetrators and pawns involved in the May 9 attacks, the masterminds will also face justice. He claimed that even if the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, is sentenced, the country will not witness a repeat of the turmoil experienced on May 9.
Asif accused Imran Khan of deceiving his own cabinet by depositing funds into specific accounts and criticized the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for prioritizing attacks on Islamabad over governing his province. He added that the chief minister’s loyalty lies with Imran Khan rather than the people of KP.
The report states that Asif expressed optimism about Pakistan’s economic recovery, predicting an increase in foreign exchange reserves by December 31. He dismissed PTI’s call for civil disobedience, asserting that the public will continue paying their bills as usual.
Moreover, Khwaja Asif highlighted the urgency of decisions regarding the May 9 incidents, during which sensitive installations were attacked in a planned manner. He revealed that those involved were trained individuals, and military courts have sentenced 25 perpetrators to prison terms ranging from 2 to 10 years, based on video evidence.
He criticized judicial delays in bringing the May 9 attackers to justice, emphasizing that such incidents had never occurred before in Pakistan’s history. He described the attacks as a result of meticulous planning by an individual who was a product of the establishment.
Accusing Imran Khan of prioritizing his interests over the country’s welfare, Khwaja Asif alleged that Khan’s tenure saw rampant corruption and claimed that former Army Chief General Bajwa was actively working on a project to remove Nawaz Sharif.
Praising Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, emphasizing his contributions to making Pakistan a nuclear power despite international pressure, he urged PTI supporters to reflect on Imran Khan’s past and recognize him as the establishment’s “greatest product.”
