Karachi is experiencing cold weather, with the minimum temperature dropping to 8.9°C on Sunday night, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The lowest temperature was recorded at Jinnah Terminal, while other areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Shahrah-e-Faisal, saw temperatures of 10.5°C and 11.5°C, respectively. Mauri Pur recorded a temperature of 12.5°C. The PMD reported that Karachi’s weather is currently cold and dry, with the daytime temperature expected to reach 27°C.
On the previous day, the city’s maximum temperature also hit 27°C. Winds are blowing from the northeast at 7 km/h, and humidity stands at 50%. However, the city’s air quality remains concerning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reading 183, indicating unhealthy conditions. The cold weather has been intensified by icy winds from Balochistan, making the temperature feel 2 to 4 degrees lower than the actual readings.
Meanwhile, northern Pakistan has been experiencing significantly colder temperatures. Leh recorded the lowest temperature in the past 24 hours at -13°C, followed by Skardu at -7°C, Kalam at -6°C, and Islamabad at -1°C. In Peshawar, Lahore, and Multan, temperatures ranged between 3°C and 7°C. In Gilgit-Baltistan, heavy snowfall has blanketed the mountains, covering roads, homes, and trees. Northern Balochistan has also been under a severe cold wave, with temperatures in Quetta dropping to -6°C, and -5°C in Kalat and Ziarat.
The PMD has issued a warning that the cold wave will persist in many regions of the country, with cold and dry weather expected to continue in Islamabad and surrounding areas.
