After more than 30 years, the “The Naked Gun” movie series is making a comeback. A new teaser trailer was released at CinemaCon on Thursday, giving fans a first look at actor Liam Neeson taking over the role from the late comedy legend, Leslie Nielsen.
The 72-year-old “Taken” star will play Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Nielsen’s character. In the new film, he’ll use his “special skills” to lead a police team and follow in his father’s footsteps, according to a description from Paramount Pictures UK.
In the one-minute trailer, Drebin, disguised as a young girl, walks into a bank where a robbery is happening. He quickly removes his costume and catches the robbers. When a hostage asks who he is, Drebin replies, “Frank Drebin, Police Squad. The new version.”
This reboot comes more than 30 years after the original “The Naked Gun” movie series, which included the 1988 film “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!,” the 1991 sequel “The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear,” and the 1994 movie “Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult.”
The original series starred Leslie Nielsen, who passed away in 2010, George Kennedy, who died in 2016, and O.J. Simpson, who passed away last year.
