In a recent development in the Karachi DHA torture case, the young victim, Sudhir, appeared before the South Judicial Magistrate and formally forgave the primary accused, Salman Farooqi, and another individual involved in the incident.
During the court hearing, Sudhir confirmed that he had not previously been aware of the court’s summons and only appeared after being informed by his lawyer on the day of the hearing. When asked by the court whether he was under any external pressure, the victim stated that he was not and added, “I do not want to file any case. I have forgiven the accused. I have no objection to whatever the court decides.”
Sudhir had earlier identified both accused individuals during the proceedings. The court had initially handed over the suspects to the police for a two-day physical remand.
The case stems from an incident on June 1 in the Khayaban-e-Ittehad Commercial area of Defence, Karachi. According to police reports, a car reportedly struck a motorcycle carrying Sudhir and his sisters. The situation escalated when the car driver, later identified as Salman Farooqi, allegedly assaulted Sudhir following the collision.
The court will now determine the next steps, taking into account the victim’s statement and the legal implications of his decision not to pursue charges.
