The United States (US) shifted its defence systems and 20,000 missiles to the Middle East from Ukraine after observing potential threats from Iran during its war with Israel.
The United Kingdom (UK) has also deployed warplanes near the Persian Gulf after a sea faceoff with Iran.
According to media reports, the United States has transferred around 20,000 missiles and defence systems from Ukraine to the Middle East to defend Israel against Iranian attack. The US Secretary of Defense confirmed the transfer of missiles and defense systems to the Middle East.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that all resources are being used to protect our people in the region, while Ukrainian President Zelensky confirmed that 20,000 missiles sent to Ukraine have been sent to the Middle East.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced the deployment of military aircraft to the Middle East, citing the need for emergency support as regional tensions continue to escalate.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his departure for the G7 Summit in Canada, Starmer confirmed that the UK is repositioning military assets, including aircraft, in response to the deteriorating security situation. “I will always make the right decisions in Britain’s interest,” he stated.
The move comes in the wake of a serious maritime incident involving a British spy warship, which was intercepted by Iranian forces. According to Iranian reports, the vessel had entered the northern Indian Ocean on an intelligence mission allegedly intended to assist Israeli missile strikes against Iranian targets.
Iranian naval surveillance reportedly detected the ship early, and drones issued a strong warning, forcing the vessel to retreat from its approach toward the Persian Gulf. Iranian officials claimed the British vessel was providing intelligence support to Israel, and praised their forces for successfully foiling the operation.
The UK’s military deployment marks a significant escalation, reflecting growing concern over regional instability and the risk of conflict spreading further. The decision has also reignited debate over Britain’s involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts, particularly amid the tense standoff between Iran and Israel’s Western allies.
