Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed a delegation of US Congress members on Monday to the Kartarpur Corridor, where they joined Sikh pilgrims in celebrating Baisakhi, one of the most important festivals in the Sikh religion.
The American delegation included Congressmen Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson, Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker, and US Consul General Kristen K. Hawkins.
Upon their arrival at Darshan Deori, the dignitaries received a warm welcome from prominent Sikh community members. They toured the historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, where they were briefed on its religious and cultural importance. Their visit included stops at the prayer hall, langar (community kitchen), and a historic well associated with Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.
In a symbolic gesture, the guests were presented with traditional Sikh honours — the Saropa (robe of honour) and Kirpan (ceremonial dagger). They also shared a communal meal in the langar hall and interacted warmly with pilgrims from India and beyond.
Congressman Suozzi described the visit as a deeply meaningful experience, while Congressman Jackson praised Pakistan’s efforts and facilities for Sikh pilgrims.
Interior Minister Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to religious harmony and enhancing pilgrimage experiences, stating that the government had simplified visa procedures to support more Sikh visitors.
