BAHAWALPUR: A man, along with his son and three relatives, killed his two daughters for marrying by choice in Vehari district of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Local media reports indicate that Siad Hussain Dhadhi, his son, and three relatives were involved in the killing of his two daughters, who had married of their own choice and were brought back home through a panchayat.
The incident took place in Pull 19/WB village within the jurisdiction of the Machhiwal police station in Vehari district. The police reported that the alleged killers, identified as Siad Dhadhi, his son Asim, and their relatives Adnan, Afshal, and Riaz, managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
The bodies were transported to Vehari District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem examinations. The Machiwal police registered an FIR (No. 507/24) under sections 302, 311, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the suspects based on a complaint by Sub-Inspector Irfan Ashraf. The police later claimed to have arrested Siad.
According to local sources, the two sisters had left their home and married of their own will. They were brought back by their parents following a panchayat verdict. It is reported that the father and brother harbored a grudge against the women and allegedly killed them over “honor.”
