Two aircraft narrowly escaped major accidents at Karachi Airport after consecutive bird strike incidents, local media reported on Friday.
As per details, a Turkish Airlines flight struck a bird during landing at Karachi Airport. The flight was carrying over 150 passengers. The pilot immediately informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) about the bird strike.
Shortly after this incident, a Fly Jinnah aircraft, arriving from Lahore, also experienced a bird strike while landing. This flight too had more than 150 passengers on board, and the captain promptly reported the incident to ATC.
It has been noted that recent rainfall has led to an increase in insects around the airport, which in turn has attracted a large number of birds, heightening the risk of such incidents.
In response, the Director General of the Airport Authority has issued immediate instructions for fumigation at Karachi Airport and the deployment of additional bird shooters to mitigate the threat.
Birds pose a serious danger to aircraft and can potentially lead to catastrophic accidents if not addressed promptly.
