KARACHI: The district police have arrested two accused persons on a tip-off in Karachi today (Friday) over charges of selling fake and expired medicines and vaccines for children.
According to details, the Liaqauatabad police station raided a flat in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on a tip-off, where a huge quantity of vaccines and medicines were recovered.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Arif Aslam Rao informed that the counterfeit drugs were being supplied for the treatment of typhoid, tuberculosis (TB), rabies, anti-viral, flu, pneumonia and other diseases.
“The two persons were arrested for playing with the lives of innocent children by selling counterfeit and expired medicines and vaccines,” the police officer said, adding that the criminals used to supply fake drugs to private and government hospitals.
The district police also revealed that the criminals used stickers of multinational medicine company for selling fake drugs. “The recovered medicines and vaccines were inspected by a drug officer who has confirmed its expiry and forgery,” he added.
Arif Aslam Rao further said that action will be taken under the copyright act against the culprits for using fake stickers of multinational companies to sell the counterfeit and expired medicines.
