ANKARA: The death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquakes has risen to more than 15,000 as 12,391 more citizens died in Turkey due to the earthquake.
According to the details, the worst earthquake in history caused havoc in Turkey and Syria. Hundreds of tall buildings were destroyed. 12, 391 people died in Turkey while 2,992 people died in Syria.
The U.S. Geological Survey said Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake was followed by another 7.6-magnitude quake. The second earthquake caused further destruction.
Apart from Syria and Turkey, earthquake tremors were also felt in Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Greece, and Cyprus. More than 400 aftershocks of the earthquake caused further damage. Several people are still buried under the debris.
The rescue operation is going on day and night without interruption, but the severe weather and snowfall are creating difficulties in helping the earthquake victims. So far, more than 8000 people have been rescued from the rubble in Turkey.
At least 32,000 people were injured as a result of the earthquake in Turkey. The number of buildings destroyed in the affected areas has been recorded as 5,775. Videos of people buried under the debris have gone viral.
