Earlier, the Afghan Taliban had expressed willingness to mediate between Pakistan and the banned organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), should Islamabad request it. However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stressed that the dispute is considered an “internal matter” of Pakistan.
“We aim to maintain good relations with Pakistan, a neighboring country with whom we share language, religion, and deep cultural ties,” Mujahid stated in an interview with Independent Urdu in August. He reiterated the Taliban’s commitment to ensuring that Afghan territory is not used for any hostilities against Pakistan or other nations.
Addressing concerns about the TTP’s activities, Mujahid stressed that Afghanistan does not allow anyone to wage war from its borders. “If Pakistan has concerns, they should communicate them with us directly. Making accusations through the media only breeds mistrust,” he said.
